He’s only been at Luckie & Co. a few weeks, and designer Chris Murphy is already earning accolades.
A Birmingham native, Chris recently joined Luckie’s Alabama headquarters as a Studio Artist, and he’s already at work crafting creative pieces for clients like Regions Bank. Shortly after landing the job, he also won the AIGA Birmingham 25th Anniversary Poster Competition.
The AIGA, a professional association for designers, held the poster competition on Oct. 4. Birmingham-area members and designers were asked to create a work of art based on the anniversary theme, Design for Good.
Chris submitted the poster above to reflect his creative interpretation of the theme, winning him a prize and the chance to meet renowned illustrator/designer Luba Lukova, whose social justice posters have won international awards and are featured in major museums’ collections.
“I wanted to create a poster that was both thought-provoking and impacting, but also simple,” Murphy said. “We all need help at some point and we all need each other. Race, gender, religion — it doesn’t matter, we all are going to need help, and we should be willing to help one another.”
This simple but powerful vision caught Lukova’s eye and ultimately won the prize, a copy of Adobe CS6 Design Premium.
